Projects

Time: 01.2023 - 12.2023

Goal(s):
In the course of the project, the possibilities of using various materials produced by the chemical valorization of cellulose for the collection of electrical energy using the triboelectric method are investigated. In the Laboratory of Biopolymer Technology of Tallinn University of Technology, cellulose derivatives are prepared and nanofibrous non-woven materials are produced from them by electrospinning. The main physical properties of non-woven materials are determined. Project partner RISE constructs triboelectric devices from the non-woven materials and evaluates their ability to produce electricity.
Result(s):
Prototypes of triboelectric materials were produced and the suitability of electrospinning technology in this application was proven.

Time: 09.2020 - 08.2023

Goal(s):
In the course of the project, a laboratory pilot line for the production of novel thermoplastic cellulose is developed and a technological solution for the production and processing of the materials is proposed.
Result(s):
The result of the work offers new consumer plastics in the synergy of cellulose chemistry and plastics technology.

Media: Research in Estonia

Time: 01.2017 - 12.2018

Goal(s):
The main objective of the project is to develop fully electrospun, nanofibrous electrochemical double-layer capacitor, which is suitable for high frequency applications without significant loss of capacitance under specific environmental conditions of space missions. The additional objective is to have the supercapacitor in form of flexible and stackable thin sheets. This is useful for the most efficient usage of confined space of (micro)satellite or spacecraft. Still, this is not retracting usage of the new type of electrochemical double-layer capacitors in traditional housings.
Result(s):
A prototype of a flexible supercapacitor was manufactured using the electrospinning method and its good capacitive properties were proven.
